Rebellions and uprisings by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 48 Rebellions and uprisings (or “revolts” as they are sometimes called) refer to a widespread resistance against an established government or ruling class. They often involve the use of force, civil disobedience, and/or armed conflict in order to achieve their goals. Rebellions may be led by individuals or groups who seek political change through revolution, coup d’état, general strikes, guerrilla warfare or other acts of direct action. Uprisings can also occur spontaneously when people become dissatisfied with oppressive systems of governance—for instance during times of economic hardship or social injustice. Throughout history there have been numerous instances where rebellions and uprisings have played a major role in shaping society and politics across the world; from ancient civilizations such as Egypt’s Great Revolt (which overthrew Pharaoh Akhenaten), to modern-day events like the Arab Spring which started in Tunisia at the beginning of 2011 leading to regime changes throughout much of North Africa & The Middle East . Some examples include: •The American Revolution (1775–83): A successful rebellion that resulted in independence for America from Britain •The Haitian Revolution (1791–1804): An uprising led by former slaves which saw Haiti gain its independence from France •The Russian Revolution (1905–07): This series of protests ultimately brought down Tsar Nicholas II’s monarchy system •The Chinese Cultural Revolution(1966 – 1976): Mao Zedong launched this campaign aimed at purging “counterrevolutionary elements” while introducing his own brand communism into China More recently we’ve seen revolts take place around Europe due to austerity measures being imposed on countries such as Greece , Portugal & Spain . Beyond just these regions though large scale protest movements including Occupy Wall Street , Black Lives Matter & Extinction Rebellion among others continue push for progressive change both within their respective nations but also globally too. In all cases it is clear that whether small scale localized insurrections only affecting one country / region – or worldwide phenomenon involving millions upon millions – rebellions and uprisings remain powerful forces capable bringing about real tangible results if given enough momentum behind them!
