R&B

Rhythm and Blues (R&B) is a genre of popular music that originated in African American communities in the 1940s. It combines elements of blues, soul, gospel, jazz and hip hop. The term was first used by record companies in the United States to describe recordings marketed predominantly to urban African Americans at the time.

The style has gone through many changes over its lifespan with different eras often being referred as Old School R&B or Neo-Soul depending on their sound’s characteristics. During its peak popularity from 1950–1970 it developed styles such as doo wop which incorporated vocal harmony while still maintaining an upbeat tempo and instrumentation along with Motown Sound which relied heavily on studio production techniques like overdubbing multiple voices onto single tracks and heavy use of backing vocals for choruses creating more polished sounds than traditional live performances were capable of producing during this era.

In terms of modern times some new subgenres have emerged including contemporary R&B & Trap Soul featuring slower tempos mixing rap-style beats combined with melodic singing; neo soul incorporating acoustic instruments into electronic productions; alternative rb described as funkier/edgier approach to pop music using influences from rock & psychedelic genres; PBRNB – combining rhythm & blues vibes with more current trends leaning towards trap percussion patterns but tonally staying within smooth melodies are just some examples how far reaching this musical form has come since it’s inception almost 80 years ago now!

Today there are countless artists ranging across all ages who keep pushing further boundaries bringing together past traditions mixed up fresh ideas expanding what we consider “R&B” today making sure that one day soon enough everyone will recognize those three letters again after they become synonymous another word describing true excellence when talking about black music culture
