Racial injustice by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 73 Racial injustice is the unequal treatment of an individual or group on the basis of their race. It has been a major problem in societies throughout history, mainly due to racism and discrimination against minority groups such as African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and Asians. Racial injustices range from legal practices that favor certain racial groups over others to cultural prejudices that lead to unjustified assumptions about people based solely on their skin color. In America, one example of racial injustice was the Jim Crow laws which were enacted after Reconstruction era legislation intended to protect emancipated slaves’ civil rights was overturned by white supremacists in 1877. These laws essentially created legalized segregation between whites and non-whites for almost 100 years until they were eventually struck down by federal courts during the Civil Rights Movement beginning in 1954 with Brown v Board of Education (1954) . Another example can be found today with mass incarceration disproportionately affecting African American males; although blacks make up only 13% percent of drug users, they account for 25% percent those incarcerated for drug offenses according to a study done by The Sentencing Project – leading many scholars argue this reflects institutionalized racism within criminal justice system. Furthermore, numerous studies have shown how black workers are paid less than their white counterparts despite having comparable qualifications , reflecting systemic economic disparities along racial lines due largely structural inequalities embedded into our society since its inception . This includes housing policies like redlining implemented during New Deal passed 1930’s which prevented minorities from accessing same loans available other individuals looking invest real estate market ultimately perpetuating cycle poverty among communities color–an issue still very much present even recent decades past passage Fair Housing Act 1968 aimed addressing these issues head-on but not fully eradicating them all together yet opening door more comprehensive reform address root causes problems continue face nation today regards social mobility opportunity gap across different races socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds Despite significant progress made combatting bigotry through legislative measures judicial decisions public sentiment shifting towards greater acceptance diversity there still remains long road ahead before true equality achieved when it comes matters race level playing field exists everyone regardless background ethnicity religion etc… In order words: although we moved closer achieving postracial utopia far away end journey—we must remain vigilant fight against any form prejudice whatever shape may take work ensure future generations live without fear persecution simply who they born being
