Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates are a professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pirates compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League Central division. Founded on October 15th 1881, they were one of the first teams to join MLB after its formation and have won five World Series titles since then, most recently in 1979.

They began play at Exposition Park located near Allegheny City (now part of Pittsburgh’s Northside). In 1909 they moved across the Allegheny River to Forbes Field before moving again in 2001 to PNC Park where they currently reside today. They are known for many iconic moments such as Bill Mazeroski’s walk-off home run which clinched their 1960 World Series title over the New York Yankees or Roberto Clemente becoming only the 11th player ever inducted into Cooperstown despite his untimely death from an airplane crash while delivering aid supplies following an earthquake that struck Nicaragua during relief efforts there late 1972 season .

Over years, some notable players who have worn black & gold include Hall Of Famers Honus Wagner , Pie Traynor , Lloyd Waner , Arky Vaughan , Ralph Kiner & Willie Stargell plus All Stars Barry Bonds and Andrew McCutchen . Their current roster features Starling Marte along with Josh Bell among others all managed by Clint Hurdle since 2011 under ownership of Bob Nutting through principal owner Robert “Bob” Rich Jr.’s company US Steel Corporation LLC whose president is Frank Coonelly .

On August 29th 2019 it was announced that Derek Shelton had been named manager replacing Hurdle who resigned earlier same day ending 8 year tenure leading Bucs including playoff appearances 2013 – 2015 but not seeing post season action since then finishing last 3 seasons 4 games below 0.500 mark each time respectively. Since joining MLB almost 140 yrs ago franchise holds record 21 NL East Division Titles setting standard for excellence within league having made total 30 postseason appearances 12 pennants 5 championships making them one America’s beloved franchises throughout history still going strong today!
