Pittsburgh Penguins by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 46 The Pittsburgh Penguins are a professional ice hockey team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They are members of the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The franchise was founded in 1967 as one of six teams to begin play in the NHL’s first expansion from the Original Six era. The Penguins have won five Stanley Cup championships since their founding and were runners-up for two more. Their most recent championship came during their 2016-17 season when they defeated Nashville Predators 4–2 on June 11, 2017; this marked their second consecutive Stanley Cup victory after defeating San Jose Sharks 3–1 in Game 6 on June 12, 2016.
