Philippines government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 52 The Government of the Philippines (Filipino: Pamahalaan ng Pilipinas) is a unitary presidential constitutional republic, with the President of the Philippines as both head of state and head of government. The Philippine government has three interdependent branches – executive, legislative and judicial. Its powers are vested in these branches by its constitution which was amended in 1987 to provide for a stronger democracy under a unified republic. Executive Branch The Executive branch is composed of the president, vice-president, cabinet secretaries, other appointed officers and their respective departments or offices. This branch administers public services such as defense forces; health care; education system; transportation system etc., implements laws passed by Congress and enforces laws enacted by it through relevant agencies like National Bureau Of Investigation (NBI), Bureau Of Internal Revenue(BIR), Land Registration Authority(LRA). It also appoints ambassadors abroad apart from other diplomatic representatives who deals with matters on foreign soil alongwith PH Embassies & Consulates around world. Legislative Branch The Legislative branch consists mostly elected members called senators belonging to upper house known as Senate while lower house known as House Of Representatives consist mostly elected member called congressman/woman representing different districts across nation . These members form bicameral legislature comprising two houses mentioned above , where they pass law based on proposals put forward either by individual member or any organization related to that particular subject matter . They also have power to impeach certain office holders holding important positions within country incase found guilty exceeding authority limits provided via constitution . In addition , this same body can override Presidential veto issued against proposed bill if 2/3 majority agrees upon doing so . Judicial Branch Lastly we have Judicial branch responsible for making sure all rules enforced at national level comply with existing constitution & legal framework adopted previously set up during Marcos era reformulation back in 1986 when amendments were made after People Power Revolution removing authoritarian rule then active since 1972 due independence gained previous year under his regime replacing US Commonwealth type governance brought over occupation period post Spanish colonization end 1898 until 1946 when full sovereignty granted afterwards till present day 2020 Judiciary’s main role lies deciding whether actions taken part various bodies including those already discussed fall line laid down according standards established prior time being acted upon hearing out arguments presented each side following civil procedure code sanctioned earlier before passing verdict accordingly followed enforcement measures necessary depending situation involved ensuring equal justice served everyone regardless social status
