Patrick Stewart by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 54 Patrick Stewart (born 13 July 1940) is a British actor and voice artist. He has had a long career in theatre, television, film, and radio drama; he is most widely known for his role as Jean-Luc Picard on the popular TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994). Early life and stage work Stewart was born in Mirfield, West Riding of Yorkshire. His mother Gladys was a weaver and his father Alfred worked at the local coal mine. After finishing school at 18 years old he joined an amateur dramatic society where he found great success as both an actor and director before enrolling in London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to study professionally. Soon after graduating from RADA in 1966 he began working with several regional theater companies including the Prospect Theatre Company which toured repertory theaters across England performing plays by classic authors such as Shakespeare’s King Lear or Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land. During this time period Patrick performed some of his best theatrical roles alongside actors like Ian McKellen who later became close friends with him even appearing together onstage multiple times over their careers.. Film & Television Career In 1975 Stewart landed one of his first major parts on television playing Claudius opposite Derek Jacobi’s Hamlet on BBC2—this performance earned him two BAFTA nominations for Best Actor in 1977/78 season making him only 1st person ever nominated twice during that season!. Around same time also started taking up movie roles starting off small but soon earning larger more prominent supporting ones like Gurney Halleck 1984 adaptation David Lynch Dune (1984), Maximilian Robinson X-Men Franchise(2000–2014)& Captin Ahab Moby Dick miniseries 1998.. Voice Work & Later Life Throughout 2000s’ been busy lending voice various animated films documentaries video games etc along continuing act live action movies…. Recently returned helm another iteration Starfleet Captain next installment Jj Abrams ST DISCOVERY set premier 2020 CBS all access streaming service… Aside acting heavily involved charity works hosting fundraisers promoting animal rights causes UNICEF humanitarian aid programs…….
