Ohio state government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 48 Ohio State Government is the government of the U.S. state of Ohio, established by the Constitution of Ohio in 1802 as a republican form of government with three branches: executive, judicial, and legislative. The capital city is Columbus which hosts numerous state offices and agencies within its borders. The Executive branch consists primarily of six elected officials; Governor Mike DeWine (Republican), Lt Governor Jon Husted (Republican) , Secretary Of State Frank LaRose (Republican), Attorney General Dave Yost( Republican), Auditor Keith Faber( Republican)and Treasurer Robert Sprague (Republican). These individuals are in charge for running many aspects including managing natural resources and regulating business activities within the state lines as well as being responsible for enforcing laws passed by legislature . They also appoint members to various boards that oversee different departments such as education or health services . The Legislative Branch includes two chambers-the House Of Representatives And Senate – who propose bills that become law once approved by both houses then signed off on by governor . Its main mission is to create legislation addressing issues like taxation policy , public safety programs or environmental protection regulations There are 99 representatives divided among 16 districts each serving a 2 year term while 33 senators serve 4 year terms representing their respective areas across entire state boundaries The Judicial branch interprets all laws created legislatively and presides over court cases throughout judiciary system It holds supreme power when it comes to interpreting constitutionality any act proposed enacted previously made into law This involves deciding if an action taken violates certain rights protected under US federal charter helping ensure justice served equitably fair manner All judges appointed at least 6 years experience legal field serve up life tenures except those Supreme Court Justices chosen popular vote every 2 years In addition Ohio’s local governments provide plenty opportunities citizens voice opinion directly affecting them Each county has own set rules regulations overseen County Commissioners Board where people can debate topics ranging economic development zoning ordinances other matters pertaining everyday lives Additionally cities townships have councils mayors whose task handle day operations maintaining infrastructure providing basic services like police fire departments trash collection sewage disposal etc Overall structure based upon democratic ideals helps promote balanced representation ensuring everyone receives attention needed As result this allows voices heard through voting process encourages active citizenry participation decision making processes leads better informed decisions benefiting all citizens living throughout Buckeye State
