The Nevada Wolf Pack Men’s Basketball team is the men’s basketball team representing the University of Nevada, Reno (Nevada). The school competes in the Mountain West Conference of NCAA Division I. The Wolf Pack are currently led by head coach Steve Alford and play their home games at Lawlor Events Center on campus.

History

The Wolfpack first fielded a varsity basketball program during its inaugural 1895-1896 season as an independent university member of the Pacific Coast Basketball Association. During its time within this association, Nevada would claim one conference championship title in 1932 under legendary head coach Edgar Jones before transitioning to non-varsity status until 1953 when it rejoined collegiate athletics as part of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). As members of this athletic league, which later joined with other schools from across California to form what is now known today as present day Big West Conference, they won three consecutive CCAA championships between 1959–1962 and made appearances in NIT tournaments throughout this period. In 1969 they would join fellow former CCAA universities Fresno State & San Jose State along with others who left related conferences such as BYU & Utah into forming two separate divisions that became forerunners for current day Western Athletic Conference (WAC) & Mountain West Conferences respectively where Nevada remains today since joining MWC prior to 1999–2000 season start date.
