NATO

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is a military alliance between 29 North American and European countries. It was established in 1949 with the signing of the Washington Treaty, which formed a collective defense pact among its member nations. The organization’s primary objectives are to promote stability and security throughout Europe and North America, deter potential aggressors from attacking any of its members, and maintain diplomatic ties between all participating states.

The headquarters for NATO is located in Brussels, Belgium where it serves as an international hub for discussions regarding peacekeeping operations across Europe; such operations include air strikes against ISIL militants in Iraq or Syria as well as naval missions combating piracy off the Horn of Africa. Additionally, NATO provides support to partner nations like Ukraine through various means including training exercises that help strengthen their armed forces’ capabilities.
