Nashville

Nashville is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is located on the Cumberland River in Davidson County, in the central part of Middle Tennessee. As of 2018, Nashville had an estimated population of 692,587 making it one of four cities in North America with a population greater than 600,000 people (the other three being New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago). The metropolitan area surrounding Nashville has a population nearing 2 million people as well as over 13 counties within its boundaries including Williamson County to the south and Robertson County to its northeast corner; both are among the fastest-growing counties in all U.S states between 2000-2010 census periods according to United States Census Bureau data for those years

The city was founded by James Robertson who named it after Francis Nash—a Revolutionary War hero famous for his service at Battle Of Germantown during 1777–1778 campaigns against British forces around Philadelphia Pennsylvania while he served under General George Washington’s command—in 1779 and quickly became an important river port due largely because it sits along “Cumberland” navigable waterway between two large interior lakes: Old Hickory Lake & Percy Priest Lake which eventually flow into Ohio/Mississippi Rivers further downstream opening up trade opportunities stretching across continental US From 1840s through 1870s steamboat services were established allowing goods such cotton bales produced near Manchester TN – about 50 miles eastward from downtown Nashville — travel downriver onto Mississippi Delta region where they could be sold directly or shipped elsewhere via larger vessels like paddlewheelers carrying shipments even farther away towards Europe By mid 19th century railroad lines connecting north/south built alongside riverside wharfs creating additional transportation networks facilitating growth into major trade center attracting businesses investors looking capitalize upon new commerce opportunities leading what some called ‘Old South’ economy boom period throughout remainder 1800s until civil war broke causing disruption afterwards when Union troops set fire many structures destroying much original infrastructure Despite having suffered heavy damage however there still remained strong base cultural identity based upon southern heritage that helped bring back life during Reconstruction era despite economic hardships faced following end slavery 1861-1865 followed later industrial revolution bringing influx immigrants willing work hard low wages factories mills attracted labor force needed fuel modernizing urban centers
