Mozambique, officially the Republic of Mozambique (Portuguese: Moçambique or República de Moçambique), is a country located in southeastern Africa bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Tanzania to the north-northwest, Malawi and Zambia to the northwest, Zimbabwe to the west and Swaziland as well as Eswatini (Swaziland)to its southwest. It lies between latitudes 10°S and 27°S, bordering with Indian Ocean on its east coast from where it is separated from Madagascar. The capital city Maputo formerly known as Lourenco Marques is also largest city.

The area now occupied by Mozabmque was once home of many indigenous kingdoms since Stone Age including communities such those of Tsonga people who called it Gaza Empire ruled by Monomotapa dynasty which lasted until early 16th century when Portuguese first arrived in 1505 establishing trading posts along coastline during their exploration around southern African region. This colonization continued till 1975 when they finally gained independence after years long conflict against liberation struggle fought mainly by FRELIMO forces under leadership Samora Machel followed later Joachim Chissano declared official free state following fall of Portugal’s fascist regime at that time leaded Antonio Salazar .
