Mobile apps by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 49 Mobile apps are computer programs designed to run on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. They are typically available through app stores which are operated by the device’s respective platform owners, such as Apple App Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android phones. Mobile apps have become increasingly popular in recent years with their usage being driven by a growing demand from users looking to easily access information and services on the go. The concept of creating applications specifically created for mobile devices was first introduced in 2007 when Apple launched its iPhone series, followed shortly after by Google’s launch of Android OS. These platforms opened up new opportunities for developers who were able to create software tailored towards specific needs of users while taking advantage of unique features offered only on these operating systems (OS). Over time more businesses began investing into developing custom-made apps that would cater better toward their user base while providing them with an enhanced experience compared to web browsing alone. Today there is an extensive variety of different types of mobile apps ranging from productivity tools like calendar management and note-taking; entertainment including gaming; communication & social media networks; news aggregation & streaming services; navigation utilities; health monitoring systems among many others – all developed both independently or integrated within existing service offerings provided by companies across various industries.. The convenience factor associated with using these applications has further contributed towards increasing popularity amongst consumers worldwide resulting in higher downloads rates around the world each year reaching over 200 billion annually according 2018 estimates . Additionally, monetization strategies implemented via subscription plans , advertisements or pay per download models have enabled developers to generate revenue streams off their work making it a viable career option leading many companies having set up dedicated development teams focusing solely on this field .
