MLB baseball by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 53 MLB Baseball, or Major League Baseball, is an American professional baseball organization and the oldest of the four major professional sports leagues in North America. It consists of 30 teams—29 in the United States and 1 in Canada. Its headquarters are located at 245 Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York City. The MLB was founded as a response to challenges faced by 19th century players who wanted better working conditions than those imposed on them by National Association rules. The MLB began play in 1876 with 8 charter members: Boston Red Sox (then known as “Boston Base Ball Club”), Chicago White Stockings (now known as “Chicago Cubs”), Cincinnati Reds (now called “Reds”), Detroit Wolverines (now defunct), Hartford Dark Blues (also now defunct), Louisville Grays/Eclipse(both also now defunct) , Philadelphia Athletics (“A’s”) and St Louis Brown Stockings (“Cardinals”). Today it has grown into one of the world’s most popular sports leagues – making up over 50% of all annual sport revenues worldwide! The regular season runs from April through October each year while post-season playoffs take place between late October and early November; culminating with a seven game World Series championship series which begins mid-October every year after two rounds of playoffs that decide divisional champions. All games are played using official rules set forth by The Official Rules Committee – overseen by Commissioner Rob Manfred since 2015 when he succeeded Bud Selig who had been commissioner since 1998 . Teams participate in 162 regular season games followed by three levels postseason tournament consisting of Division Series Championship seriesand ultimatelytheWorldSeries wherethe championis crownedeachyear..
