It shares borders with eight other states: Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. Missouri was admitted to the Union as the 24th state on August 10th 1821. The capital of Missouri is Jefferson City while its largest city by population is Kansas City. The geography of Missouri consists mainly of low rolling hills and plains which cover most of central and northern parts of the state; however there are some mountainous areas in southeastern portions where it meets up with Arkansas (Ozark Mountains).
