Middle East by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 103 The Middle East is a geographical and cultural region located in Western Asia and Eastern North Africa. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Egypt to the west, Iraq and Turkey to the northeast, Iran and Afghanistan to the east; Pakistan lies further south. The area includes Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria , Qatar , United Arab Emirates (UAE) , Oman Yemen Saudi Arabia . The population of this region totals nearly 400 million people with its largest city being Cairo in Egypt. Historically known as Mesopotamia or ‘the land between two rivers’ due to its location between Tigris & Euphrates river valleys it was home of many ancient civilizations such as Sumerian civilization an Assyrian Empire later on Babylonians who build famous hanging gardens along with other wonders like Tower Of Babel which still remains standing today though parts have been destroyed over time due too natural disasters or human conflict . This region has played a major role in world history for centuries being part of trade routes from Europe towards India & China also hosting some great empires that shaped much of what we see around us today including Ottoman Empire founded by Sultan Mehmed II after conquest Constantinople aka Istanbul now capital city of modern day Republic Of Turkey Persian Safavid dynasty which unified all persian speaking regions under one rule etc . Present day Middle East sees constant political unrest mainly due tribalism sectarianism economic disparities social issues lack education quality healthcare foreign interventions religious extremism etc but at same time there are countries making steady progress towards building better lives for their citizens example UAE having highest GDP per capita income rate among developing nations while Israel established itself as regional superpower despite facing hostile neighboring states since 1948 when they declared independence from British mandate Palestine ….. In terms culture literature art music cuisine language customs traditions Middle East has quite rich heritage even though majority languages spoken here belong Indo-European family however Semitic languages such Arabic Hebrew Aramaic used widely across different regions giving them unique identity compared rest world Ancient monuments dot landscape throughout entire area ranging from temples ziggurats pyramids tombs mosques towers citadels castles fortresses palaces mansions ruins dams aqueducts irrigation systems canals walls roads bridges harbors markets trading centers bathhouses baths souks plazas parks gardens cemeteries mausoleums minarets shrines sacred groves holy trees springs wells fountains pools ponds lakes islands mountains deserts hills plateaus plains oases wadies forests meadows steppes prairies dunes sand seas gulfs straits archipelagos coasts landscapes provide tourists amazing array sights explore enjoy ….
