Mick Cronin

Mick Cronin (born March 15, 1974) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men’s basketball coach at the University of Cincinnati. He was previously an assistant coach from 2001–2003 under Bob Huggins, as well as associate head coach for two years after that before being promoted to interim head coach in 2006 following Huggins’ departure. In his first year leading the Bearcats program he led them to a 23-10 record and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2002. He was officially named permanent head coach on April 11th 2007, becoming only the 6th official full-time Bearcat Head Coach in history.

Prior to working with UC, Cronin served four seasons (1997–2001) as an assistant at Louisville; helping lead them to three NCAA tournament appearances including one Final Four run during that time period. Before arriving in Louisville he had coached as both a graduate assistant at Michigan State (1995–97), then later worked with Murray State where they made back-to-back NCAA tournaments while he was there from 2000 – 2001 . During his coaching career Mick has also had stints with West Virginia University and Vanderbilt before taking over what eventually became known as “The Mick Cronin Era” of Cincinnati Basketball beginning in 2006 which has seen him become 3rd all time leader for most wins by any Bearcat HeadCoach – trailing just behind Ed Jucker & Bob Hugginss totals of 269 & 399 respectively..

Cronin has achieved numerous individual honors throughout his tenure suchas Big East Coach Of The Year Award recipient twice(2009/2014); 2x NABC District 12 Coaches Of The Year award winner(2012/2015); 4x Conference USA Divisional Winners plus AAC regular season championship winners once each 2016 / 2019).He also guided team towards 8 consecutive post season berths between 2010 thru 2017; 5 NIT appearances +3 straight trips into Sweet 16 round starting 2014 through 2018 , making it all way upto Elite Eight bracket stage finish within same said timespan… Additionallyhe earned recognition nationally when receiving Naismith College Basketball Men’s Coach Of The Year nominee status back during 2015 campaignseason..

CurrentlyIn July 2020 ,Cronni signed contract extension committing him stay onboard till June 30 2026 continuing leadership rolewithin UCMen’sBasketballprogram… His future goals include leading team winning 1st National Championship title ever since 1961 when program last won it under legendary HC Ed Jucker who passed away recently this past February 2021 due age related illness….
