Michael Boatwright (born May 17, 1981) is an American professional tennis player from San Francisco, California. He has won two singles titles and four doubles titles on the ATP Tour in his career.

Career overview
Boatwright turned professional in 1999 after playing college tennis at Stanford University for three years, where he was a member of the 1998 NCAA national championship team. His first success came shortly thereafter when he reached the semifinals of Newport’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships as a qualifier in July 2000 and also declared himself eligible for Wimbledon that same year. In 2001, Boatwright captured his first ATP title when he defeated Alex Corretja to win Umag’s Croatia Open before adding another title later that season by winning Toronto’s Rogers AT&T Cup with partner Pete Sampras against Jared Palmer and Max Mirnyi.

In 2002, despite early-season injuries which forced him out of several tournaments including Roland Garros qualifying and Wimbledon qualifying rounds, Boatwright continued to have strong results throughout North America; reaching finals at Indianapolis’ RCA Championships with Mark Knowles against Kevin Kim & Bob Bryan (losing 6–4 3–6 [11–9])and Los Angeles’ Countrywide Classic final alongside Todd Martin versus Luke Jensen/Jared Palmer(winning 7–5 4–6 [10–7]). At Cincinnati Masters Series event during Labor Day weekend—where eight months earlier he had advanced to round 16 defeating Roger Federer—Boatwright again made it into third round losing only after receiving medical timeouts due to right shin injury sustained prior quarterfinal match vs Xavier Malisse ending their five set encounter 5-7 6-3 2-1 Retired.. This would be one last result under then coach Craig Kardon prior Michael changing coaches yet again enlisting Larry Stefanki who would remain as mentor until 2010 while playing mostly Challenger events near end 2006 season further rehabilitating chronic shoulder injury effects suffered since 2005 US Open tournament vs Nicolas Mahut . Later 2007 season included multiple Davis Cup tie wins over Ecuador partnering James Blake , Australia partnering Mardy Fish plus Chile pairing up Sam Querrey leading USA past 1st round Group I regional playdowns toward 2008 World Group Playoff matches held April 2008 @ Winston Salem NC eventually lost 0:4 vs Spain featuring Rafael Nadal Nicolás Almagro David Ferrer Fernando Verdasco . After extended break from international touring schedule resurfaced late 2009 reclaiming full fitness back but without substantial ranking points amassed longer absence brought upon timeline defeats beginning comeback trail back double handed forehand stroke developed anew atop ever present serve volleying skillset allowing few more seasons competing highest level tourney events such as Miami Sony Ericsson WTA Premier Mandatory 2011 QF run w def Juan Monaco ; 2012 Australian Open Rd 16 loss Nikolay Davydenko ; 2013 AO RD 32 loss Jo Wilfred Tsonga etc … Since 2018 retired competitively continues now working actively worldwide conducting grassroots junior clinics promoting sport we love – Tennis !
