Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 52 The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team is the intercollegiate men’s basketball program representing the University of Miami, located in Coral Gables, Florida. The school competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays its home games at Watsco Center on the university campus. The Hurricanes have appeared in 13 NCAA Tournaments and three College Basketball Invitationals while compiling an overall tournament record of 14–13. They were National Champions in 1989-90 season and made Final Four appearances during that same year as well as 2018-19 season. Miami has had several successful head coaches over their history including Leonard Hamilton from 1990 to 2000 who led them to 4 NCAA Tournament Appearances, two NIT berths, one Sweet Sixteen appearance and a regular season ACC Championship title; Frank Haith from 2004 to 2011 leading them to 3 consecutive NCAA tournaments for first time ever; Jim Larranaga from 2011 – 2020 taking them into 2 Elite Eight Appearances with a Sweet Sixteen Appearance before departing for George Mason prior 2021 Season; and current Head Coach Jim Larranga Jr., son of previous coach ,who took over following his father’s departure . He guided team back into post-season play after missing it all together last year by making it back into NIT Quarterfinals this past March 2021.. Over years Miami has produced numerous NBA Players such as Rick Barry(1964), Tim James (1999), Guillermo Diaz (2007). One player they are most proud off is former guard Shane Larkin who was selected 18th overall pick by Atlanta Hawks during 2013 draft . During senior year he averaged 14 points per game ,4 assist per game & 1 steal per game which earned him First Team All American honors along with being named ACC Player Of Year award recipient . Another notable alumni include Devin Davis who played professionally overseas after going undrafted outta college but more recently served assistant coaching role alongside Shaka Smart at Texas Longhorns Program where helped reach two straight Big 12 titles within four seasons there.. Overall since joining ACC conference in 1991-92 till present day ,Miami Men’s Basketball has seen much success winning 5 Regular Season Titles along earning 11 PostSeason apperances including 8 trips between 2008 – 2019 alone highlighting successes under both Larrañagas era .. With reemergence new young talent lately combined veteran experience already established through returning players like Isaiah Wong or Kameron McGusty among others ; Canes look poised make yet another deep run come next postseason …
