Memphis

Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee and the second most populous city in the southeastern United States. It lies on the Mississippi River, at a point just south of its intersection with Wolf River. The population was 653,450 as of 2018 estimates from U.S Census Bureau making it Tennessee’s biggest metropolitan area and one of America’s 25 largest metro areas .

The city was founded by settlers from North Carolina near Chickasaw Bluffs in 1819 and has since become a major center for transport, commerce, health care, education and entertainment due to its location along several major transportation routes including I-40 (formerly Memphis & Charleston Railroad) , I-55 , US Route 51/61 /US Route 64 , US Route 70 (Greater Memphis), SR 14(Grand Parkway)and three railroads: Union Pacific line; BNSF Railway ; Norfolk Southern lines which run through downtown Memphis connecting it to other cities across country as well as internationally via air cargo services offered out of FedEx Express global hub located there
Visible reminders of this rich past are still seen throughout Downtown such as Beale Street – home to blues clubs like BB King’s Blues Club – Court Square Historic District containing many late 19th century buildings constructed after Great Fire Of 1878 that destroyed much original town site built up earlier around cotton trade industry or National Civil Rights Museum housed within Lorraine Motel where civil rights activist Martin Luther King Junior stayed prior his assassination nearby Other sights include Stax Records museum showcasing work done by influential soul music recording studio established here 1960s or Graceland Mansion former residence Elvis Presley located few miles outside central part town
