Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón (born 9 December 1962) is a Mexican politician who served as Mayor of Mexico City from 2006 to 2012. He was the candidate of the Party of the Democratic Revolution in that year’s presidential election, but he ultimately lost to Enrique Peña Nieto and his Institutional Revolutionary Party. Since leaving office, Ebrard has been involved in various other political activities including working with Amnesty International on human rights issues within Mexico.

Early life and career

Born into an upper-class family in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Ebrard attended law school at Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez where he received his degree in 1985 before earning a master’s degree from El Colegio de México two years later. During this time period he also became active politically by joining left-wing movements such as Nuestro Tiempo which sought social change through democracy and economic development for marginalized communities throughout Latin America. From 1989–1991, Marcelo worked for then president Carlos Salinas de Gortari’s cabinet during which time he helped develop policy initiatives related to civil liberties reform as well as environmental protection laws among others topics; it was during these formative years that Marcelo first developed close relationships with current president Andrés Manuel López Obrador along with many prominent members of what would become known today as The National Regeneration Movement or MORENA party – all whom have remained close allies since their initial collaborations decades ago when they were just starting out together professionally

Mayoralty
