Louisiana State Tigers women’s basketball is the intercollegiate women’s basketball program representing Louisiana State University. The team competes in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) of NCAA Division I and are currently led by head coach Nikki Fargas, who was hired in 2008.

The LSU Lady Tigers began play during the 1975-76 season under then Head Coach Sue Gunter as an independent member of Division I Women’s Basketball. During their first four seasons they played a total of 59 games with records ranging from 4-13 to 8-17 before joining Southland Conference for one season playing a full schedule against conference opponents. In 1980 they moved up to become members of the Metro Conference where they were very successful over their two year tenure; posting back to back 20 win seasons which included capturing both regular season and tournament titles in 1981 along with advancing all the way to Sweet 16 round that same year under Hall Of Fame Coach Sue Gunter, who held her position until 2005 when she retired after thirty years at LSU.

In 1984, LSU joined what would later become known as SEC where it has been ever since winning six regular season championships including three consecutive between 2004–2006 while also taking home five tournament titles throughout its 33+ years within this conference alone – most recently winning 2019 Tournament Championship Title & Regular Season Championship Titles 2018/2019 which earned them automatic bid into 2019 NCAA Tournament where they advanced past 1st Round but lost second round game against Central Michigan Chippewa 86–80 ending their 2018/19 run 25–8 overall record on campaign finishing 2nd place ranked 11th nationally behind #1 Mississippi St Bulldogs – All time Program Record currently stands 731 wins 587 losses (.553 Win Percentage).

LSU had several prominent players such as Seimone Augustus (2004 National Player Of The Year), Sylvia Fowles (2007 National Player Of The Year), Jeanne Kenney (1978 Final Four MOP), Alisha Allen(1989 SWC POY & AP All American Honorable Mentions 1989/90) ,DeTrina White(1991 SWC Defensive POY & 1991 AP All American Honorable mentions )and many more . Also notable coaching staff includes former Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Hubie Brown who served from 1977 until 1979 leading his squads into AIAW Tournaments each Spring prior moving onto NBA ranks following 79′ Campaign.. Overall Athletic Department have seen tremendous success across board and continue strive higher every day!
