Los Angeles by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 101 Los Angeles, often referred to by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States and the most populous city of California. Located on a broad basin in Southern California, Los Angeles covers an area of 469 square miles (1,210 km2). Its metropolitan area extends beyond these boundaries covering some 4,850 square miles (12,560 km2), making it one of the largest urban areas in North America. Los Angeles has been ranked as either first or second most economically powerful cities and among top ten global cities according to numerous economic metrics since at least 2010. The City of Angels was founded September 4th 1781 by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve with settlers from New Spain who had come up along El Camino Real road from Mexico City and established what would become known as “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula” – The Town Of Our Lady Queen Of Angels On The River Porciuncula”. This grew into what is now called Downtown LA which remains a vibrant hub for culture and entertainment alike today. As industries such as oil extraction began to take off around 1900 so did immigration from across Europe and Asia leading to explosive population growth during that time period resulting in many iconic neighborhoods being formed including Boyle Heights, Chinatown & Little Tokyo while also contributing heavily towards Hollywood becoming THE place where dreams are made real within film & television industry all over world today! Today Los Angeles stands out globally not just for its economy but also due its large concentration of cultural attractions ranging anywhere between world class art institutions like Museum Modern Art (MOCA) located downtown through various music venues scattered throughout town hosting shows both big & small; even theme parks like Universal Studios Hollywood attracts millions visitors each year! As well there’s much more explore when visiting this amazing metropolis: hundreds beaches spanning coast line up north down south; sprawling mountain ranges stretching east west home countless trails perfect hiking biking activities plus state-of-the-art sports stadiums filled fans cheering their favorite teams… it truly something everyone must experience firsthand order fully appreciate all that makes great about “City Dreams”!
