Los Angeles Angels by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 90 The Los Angeles Angels are an American professional baseball team based in Anaheim, California. The Angels compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West Division. The club has played its home games at Angel Stadium since 1966. The current owners of the franchise include Arte Moreno and his family; they have owned the team since 2003 when he purchased it from Disney for $183 million. Since then, Moreno has increased payroll and improved marketing efforts to make them one of MLB’s most successful teams on and off the field. After their World Series victory in 2002, they’ve been consistently competitive making playoff appearances six times between 2004-2009 with four AL West division titles over that span including two Wild Card berths during 2007–08 seasons respectively . In 2012 ,the Angels made their first post season appearance after five years missing out under Moreno’s ownership by clinching second wild card spot despite finishing third place behind Texas Rangers & Oakland Athletics . They were eliminated by Detroit Tigers in ALCS 4 game sweep . In 2014 , Mike Trout was unanimously selected as MVP while leading league with 36 home runs & 111 RBIs becoming youngest player ever to win this award twice consecutively before turning 24 . He also finished runner up three consecutive times prior to winning both awards giving him total of 5 top 2 finishes within 6 year career span cementing himself as best all around position player at young age which is why many consider him face of modern day baseball along side Bryce Harper who plays for Washington Nationals another NL East rival team located just south east across country near nations capital city Washington DC Under manager Mike Scioscia’s leadership, the Angels became known throughout major leagues having produced several star players such as Garret Anderson , Vladimir Guerrero , John Lackey etc.. who had lead roles setting foundation which allowed organization reach success achieved 2000s decade where they recorded highest wins total 100+ multiple times totaling 10 consecutive winning seasons until 2009 when pitching staff injury plague hit hardest causing loss streak ultimately resulting 87–75 finish good enough grab last wildcard spot yet not deep enough into playoffs due lack starting pitchers depth unable deliver necessary performance keep momentum going forward past opening round series against Boston Red Sox ending postseason run early without advancing further championship contention stage leaving much room improvement moving ahead future especially considering changes undergone offseason roster moves trading away few main core pieces that had become integral part identity built through previous successes even though overall results looked solid surface level deeper analysis revealed underlying issues needed addressed quickly order return back gear hope remains same 2016 season brings something special fans come support every step way
