Lobsters are a type of edible crustacean found in the ocean, usually near coastal areas. They have long bodies with muscular tails and live on bottom of the sea floor. Lobsters are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Their diet consists mainly of fish, mollusks, worms, and other crustaceans.

There are several species of lobsters including American lobster (Homarus americanus), European lobster (Homarus gammarus) , Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus), Spiny Lobster (Palinurus elephas) and Slipper Lobster (Scyllarides latus). These species vary in size from 3-20 inches depending on their age and environment. The most common color for lobsters is red but some can be yellow or blue due to genetic mutations caused by environmental stressors such as temperature changes or toxins released into their habitat.

Lobster fishing has been an important industry for many centuries; it was first documented as early as 2200 BC in Egypt when Pharaohs were given these creatures as gifts from surrounding countries like Syria, Crete & Cyprus . Today it continues to be popular especially around North America where the majority of wild caught lobsters come from Maine’s cold waters off the Atlantic Coast . In addition to being consumed fresh , frozen cooked meat is also commercially available around certain parts world markets too!

The life cycle begins with fertilization which occurs externally between two mature adults followed by egg laying within female’s abdomen where she will carry them until they hatch after few weeks time span ! Upon hatching young larvae go through multiple molting stages while transitioning towards adulthood that could take up twelve months before maturing fully equipped ready start reproducing themselves again at same process…

In recent years there has been increasing concern about overfishing leading possible extinction threats posed upon various types populations across globe due unsustainable practices employed catch large volumes seafood products – this includes not only traditional methods nets/traps utilized fishermen but modern technological advances used vessels such trawlers sonars radar systems etcetera make easier job harvesting vast amounts resources quickly efficiently than ever before! As result efforts made reduce impact fisheries ensure longevity future generations we must look towards more sustainable ways managing our natural resources responsibly going forward so that everyone may enjoy benefits delicious delicacy known simply “lobster” without fear losing out its abundance forevermore…
