Lewis Hamilton by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 64 Lewis Hamilton (born 7 January 1985) is a British racing driver who races in Formula One for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team. He won his first World Drivers’ Championship with McLaren in 2008, becoming the then-youngest champion in the sport’s history at 23 years of age. His six world titles are tied only by Michael Schumacher as most ever achieved, and he also holds records for race wins (93), pole positions (95), podiums finishes (155) and laps led among many others. As well as success on track, Hamilton has become an icon off it too through his pioneering work to bring diversity into motorsport and other advocacy causes such as environmentalism. Early career Hamilton began karting when he was eight years old after being introduced to it by his father Anthony Hamilton following a visit to Rye House Kart Circuit near Hoddesdon Hertfordshire England where Lewis soon developed a passion that drove him towards pursuing motor racing professionally from an early age. After winning National Junior Championships between 1994–1997 Hamilton graduated to single seaters competing in various series including Formula Renault UK F3 Euroseries GP2 Series before joining F1 Team McLaren Honda where he made his debut at Australian Grand Prix 2007 replacing Fernando Alonso who had left at end of 2006 season.
