Lebanon (Arabic: لبنان‎ Libnān), officially known as the Lebanese Republic, is a small country located in Western Asia. It shares its borders with Syria to the north and east, Israel to the south and west, while having access to Mediterranean Sea at its coast. The capital of Lebanon is Beirut – one of oldest cities in world that has been continuously inhabited since ancient times. Its population is estimated at 6 million people divided into 18 religious sects or confessions which include Muslim Sunnis and Shiites as well as Christian Maronites, Greek Orthodox Catholics among others.

The recorded history of Lebanon dates back several millennia when it was ruled by different civilizations such as Phoenicians, Egyptians Assyrians Babylonians Greeks Romans Crusaders Ottoman Turks French until 1941 when modern independent state was established after World War II . A series of civil wars were fought from 1975-1990 for control over territory between various factions yet nation managed remain unified despite this period turmoil due strong sense national identity shared all citizens across religious divides . Today’s government split power between president prime minister who work together ensure stability within region foster economic growth through tourism industry foreign investments . Despite being relatively small area size , Lebanon boasts diverse geography ranging mountains desert plains coastal areas packed with vibrant culture lively nightlife bustling city centers thriving business districts making ideal destination tourists looking explore Middle East without risk found other countries like Iraq Palestine Syria Yemen Afghanistan Iran Sudan etc ..

Despite internal conflicts previous decades recent years have seen increased peace prosperity throughout land although not completely free violence security threats still exist especially near border regions neighboring states where armed militants operate freely their own agenda .. In addition ongoing Syrian refugee crisis has put significant strain resources both public private sectors leading some parts country become overcrowded underdeveloped compared wealthier urban centers like Beirut Tripoli Tyre Sidon Zahleh Hammana Jounieh etc Meanwhile international community continues support humanitarian aid efforts help meet needs displaced persons seeking refuge safety shelter food clothing medical care education employment opportunities inside out … All these factors combined create unique atmosphere makes living experience truly unforgettable those fortunate enough call themselves “Lebanese”..
