Kazakhstan government

Kazakhstan Government is the governing body of Kazakhstan. It is composed of three branches: executive, legislative and judicial. The head of state in Kazakhstan is President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev who was elected on June 9th 2019 following the resignation of long serving president Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Executive Branch
The executive branch in Kazakhstan consists mainly of a cabinet which includes ministers responsible for different sectors such as economy, defense and education etc., headed by Prime Minister Askar Mamin since 2018 with approval from the president. Additionally, local governments are also present within each region/city to provide public services and manage regional issues at a lower level.

Legislative Branch
The legislative branch in Kazakhstan consists primarily of Parliament (Majilis) consisting two chambers – Senate representing upper house (47 members appointed by President), National Assembly or lower house (107 representatives directly elected). Both houses have equal powers but proposals must be accepted by both before they can become laws enforced nationally across all regions in country’s territory including capital city Astana now known as Nur-Sultan due to renaming process initiated recently after former leader’s retirement announcement earlier this year(2019).
