Kansas State Wildcats by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 73 The Kansas State Wildcats are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Kansas State University. The official color of the teams is Royal Purple, which is why they are often referred to as the “Purple Cats.” The university fields 16 varsity sports teams in NCAA Division I and competes in Big 12 Conference for most sports. Men’s basketball team has made three Final Four appearances in its history (1948, 1951 and 1958). Football began playing organized games in 1896 under head coach Willis Bates; since then, K-State football has had a total of seven national championships (4 from NAIA, 2 from AP Poll and 1 Coaches’ Poll) and 28 conference titles between four different conferences: Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA), Big Six/Seven/Eight Conferences(Big 6/7/8), Big 12 Conference (Big 12) and Western Athletic Conference (WAC). In 2011 Bill Snyder was hired as head coach of K-State football program after leading them to their first bowl game win over Syracuse University 23–10 at Insight Bowl on December 31st 2009. Since his return he led them to eight consecutive winning seasons including six straight bowl games with five victories over top 25 opponents during this span. K-State men’s basketball team won two regular season conference titles while competing against some elite programs like Oklahoma Sooners or Texas Longhorns among others within current members of Big 12 Conference who have combined 11 National Championships throughout college history along with several other deep tournament runs only topped by UCLA Bruins historical success both inside & outside league play having an astonishing amount 18 National Titles alongside 109+ All Americans players produced through years. On March 24th 2018 created one milestone moment for Wildcat Nation when Bruce Weber leaded his squad into Elite Eight round before losing battle vs eventual champion Villanova Wildcats 79–72 ending historic run with 29 wins overall during 2017–18 campaign . During same year women’s basketball also achieved great successes being runner up twice at WNIT Championship Game plus making it all way until Sweet Sixteen Round where lost narrowly versus heavy favorite UConn Huskies 61 – 56 despite incredible efforts displayed by Kayla Goth who scored 15 points during second half rally attempt… Despite not having huge upsets such as Virginia Cavaliers 2019 victory over Auburn Tigers 4 – 3 epic match ,Kansas State still manages remain competitive level due significant impact provided by passionate fans filling Bramlage Coliseum each Saturday afternoon chanting “Go Cats Go!” support home side effort but also outstandingly inspiring visiting squads getting ready compete within hostile environment located right heart Manhattan KS campus … Overall understanding how important sport means many segments surrounding life gives everybody involved sense belongingness towards common good what makes truly amazing experience worth sharing beyond boundaries set either court field diamond pitch or oval track thus giving true meaning phrase “Wildcats Family Forever!”
