Kansas City by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 104 Kansas City is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri, and it lies on the border between Kansas and Missouri at the confluence of the Kansas River and Missouri River. With an estimated population of 488,943 as of July 1, 2019, it is one of two cities in Jackson County (the other being Independence). The county seat is also known as “KCMO”. It is part of a consolidated city-county government known as Unified Government that includes several jurisdictions in northeastern Jackson County including Independence and portions of Cass & Platte Counties. The first settlers to arrive within what would become Kansas City were French trappers who found their way through Spanish territory until they reached this area around 1780. In 1821, after Mexico won its independence from Spain during which time trading posts had been established along both sides if present day State Line Road when Fort Leavenworth was founded in 1827 by Colonel Henry Leavenworth with settlers arriving soon afterwards establishing Westport Landing just south east from there near modern day Penn Valley Park – many consider this location to be where “modern” KC began taking shape as immigrants followed wagon trails westward settling for opportunities presented by fur trade expansion into new territories – As steamboats became prominent early transportation hubs connecting St Louis upriver & Santa Fe downriver throughout much 19th century commerce & industry flourished here while surrounding areas such as Wyandotte grew alongside thanks to access afforded via river crossings attracting more people eager for prosperity – ultimately culminating with incorporation under Mayor James Boyle on March 28th 1889 officially defining boundaries encircling 32 square miles incorporating then adjoining communities making up today’s metropolitan area now covering over 319 square miles across 3 states serving 2 million residents earning its nickname due not only size but spirit willing work hard play harder attitude seen throughout region hosting multiple professional sports teams numerous acclaimed music venues world class museums art galleries festivals special events plus great dining options too!
