Iran government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 45 Iran is a country located in the Middle East, bordered by Iraq to the west, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the east, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the north and Pakistan and Gulf of Oman to south. Its capital city is Tehran. The government of Iran operates under an Islamic Republic system based on laws derived from Shia religious principles. It has been ruled since 1979 by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as its Supreme Leader who appoints all members of parliament (Majlis) and several other important positions such as president , head judges for judicial branches etc., while maintaining control over all aspects of decision making within Iran’s political framework .The Majlis consists of 290 representatives elected every four years through universal suffrage with each region having at least one representative regardless their population size or ethnic composition . The President oversees many ministries including those responsible for foreign affairs , defense , economy , interior etc.. Judicial System also functions independently but must follow instructions issued from higher authorities when dealing with certain cases involving security matters such as terrorism related activities or espionage against state interests .
