The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball program representing the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes compete in the Big Ten Conference and play their home games at Carver–Hawkeye Arena, located on campus in Iowa City, IA.

History

The first season for a collegiate women’s basketball team at the University of Iowa was played during 1974-1975 under head coach Lark Birdsong. In 1982, C. Vivian Stringer was hired as head coach; she led the program to three consecutive Final Four appearances from 1993 to 1995 which helped build national recognition around the program. During this time period they also made 8 NCAA tournament appearances including Sweet 16s in 1991 and 1992 before advancing all way to back-to-back Final Fours with players such as Toni Foster and Megan Gustafson who went onto become All-Americans while playing for Coach Stringer’s teams.. After her departure following 17 years coaching with over 300 wins stringed together it seemed unlikely that any other coach could have similar success or fill her shoes but Lisa Bluder stepped up to prove otherwise winning 20+ games per season 9 out 10 seasons starting 2003 while making 7 straight postseasons including two more final four appearances (2008 & 2009).

In 2018, former player turned assistant coach Jennie Baranczyk took command after Lisa Bluder left for Drake university where she has continued building upon what had already been established leading them win 24+ games each year since taking charge along with 3 straights sweet 16 berths by 2021 despite not having much talent outside of potential WNBA star Monika Czinano . Barancyzk currently holds 119 wins through 6 full seasons so far and continues striving towards bigger goals like another run deep into March Madness or possibly even a National Championship down line if things go right long enough without getting sidetracked again due COVID related pandemic issues that halted sports activity across globe last year causing several changes/adjustments be necessary moving forward into near future especially when considering impact it can have recruiting process going forth given recent uproar surrounding amateurism laws etc., but one thing remains certain: no matter whatever outcome happens rest assured will always remain strong contenders within conference come end every season thus keeping torch alive original laid many decades ago still burning bright ever since!
