The Indiana Hoosiers football program is the intercollegiate football team of Indiana University, located in Bloomington, Indiana. The team competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of Division I and represents the Big Ten Conference. The program’s home field is Memorial Stadium, which has a capacity of 52,929.

The Hoosiers have played their home games at Memorial Stadium since 1960 and are currently coached by Tom Allen who was hired on December 1st 2016 after former coach Kevin Wilson resigned his post earlier that month due to philosophical differences with university administration. Since beginning play in 1887, the Hoosiers hold an all-time record of 569 wins, 471 losses and 45 ties (.546). They have appeared in nine bowl games—winning four—and claim two conference championships: one from 1945 when they were members of what is now known as the Mid-American Conference (MAC), and another from 1967 when they made up part of what became today’s Big Ten Conference (B1G). Their most recent appearance was during the 2019 Gator Bowl against Tennessee where they lost 23–22 despite leading late into fourth quarter due to a failed 2 point conversion attempt near game end.

Indiana first fielded a varsity squad back in 1887 under head coach Arthur B Cummins going 0–3 but would go onto win seven straight matches over rival Purdue between 1893 – 1899 before joining forces with Western Reserve College for 3 years starting 1901 through 1903 forming “Western Reserve-Indiana” allowing them to compete on higher level than each school could independently prior then returning full time 1904 season using “Hoosier” nickname given them by local fans.. In 1931 Bo McMillin led men nicknamed “the Old Oaken Bucket Warriors” earned national attention following upset victory versus Notre Dame ending Fighting Irish 24 consecutive winning streak thus making him first black college football player ever earn All American honors . Notable players since include George Taliaferro , Pete Pihos both earning Pro Football Hall Of Fame induction while Anthony Thompson & Antwaan Randle El both garnering National Player Awards en route becoming NFL stars Latter won Super Bowl XL MVP award playing Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver though he started career quarterback position IU .. Current roster features several talented prospects including defensive lineman Jerome Johnson considered top pick 2021 draft class while tight end Peyton Hendershot appears destined follow suit future year selection process … Despite lack sustained success past decade or so expectations remain high throughout entire state fan base hoping find way return glory days seen decades ago ….
