Hungary is a parliamentary republic in Central Europe. The current form of government was established in 1989, following the fall of communism and democratic transition after the collapse of Soviet Union. The Hungarian Constitution outlines how executive, legislative and judicial powers are divided between different branches and levels of government.

Executive Branch
The head of state is the President who serves as a representative figurehead with limited to no power; he/she can veto legislation but this veto may be overruled by two-thirds majority vote in Parliament (Országgyűlés). Real political authority lies within the hands Prime Minister, nominated by president from largest party or coalition holding majority seats in parliament according to election results. He then nominates other cabinet members including ministers responsible for various departments such as defense, finance etc., all require approval from Parliament before assuming office . By law prime minister must consult with president on foreign policy issues although ultimately it’s his responsibility which includes forming alliances with other countries & managing international affairs through diplomacy.

Legislative Branch
