Human rights by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 89 Human rights are the basic fundamental freedoms and entitlements of every human being regardless of race, nationality, ethnicity, gender, language or any other status. Human rights include civil and political rights such as the right to life and liberty; freedom from torture or cruel treatment; equality before law; freedom of speech, assembly and association; religious belief/expression; economic social & cultural rights such as the right to work with fair wages in safe working conditions for an adequate standard of living for oneself and one’s family including food housing education healthcare etc. The concept has its origin from various philosophical traditions particularly those advocating natural law which posited that all people have inherent worth due to their shared humanity. In addition regional efforts like European Convention on Human Rights African Charter on Human & People’s Rights American Convention on Human Rights all build upon this basic framework by more precisely defining particular sets of protected individual interests while providing additional legal mechanisms intended to ensure effective implementation at local levels through courts tribunals commissions etc.. In recent years there has been increasing attention paid to so called “third generation” humanrights covering issues related sustainable development corporate responsibility environmental justice access technology globalisation climate change poverty alleviation health care censorship media misuse discrimination racial profiling domestic violence trafficking migration extrajudicial killings corruption military intervention terrorism impunity impunity amongst other pressing topics .
