Hartford

Hartford is the capital city of Connecticut, located in Hartford County. It is one of the oldest cities in America and was founded in 1635 by a group of English settlers led by Thomas Hooker. The city has been dubbed “The Insurance City” due to its long history as a hub for insurance companies. In fact, some sources estimate that nearly half of all Fortune 500 Insurance Companies are based out of Hartford today.

Hartford boasts many landmarks such as Bushnell Park, the oldest public park in the United States; Elizabeth Park Rose Garden which houses over 15,000 rose bushes from around world; and Mark Twain House & Museum where writer Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) lived from 1874-1891 while writing his famed works ‘Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn’ and ‘The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer’. Additionally there’s also several museums such as Wadsworth Atheneum Museum Of Art—the first publicly funded art museum—and Connecticut Science Center with interactive exhibits on science topics like energy physics and more. Other notable attractions include Old State House built 1796 which served as state capitol until 1875 when current Capitol building completed construction; Harriet Beecher Stowe house dedicated to author best known her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin published during mid 1800s depicting life slavery antebellum American South; along with various other historical sites throughout town including Ancient Burying Ground established 1640 being among country’s most historic cemeteries containing tombstones dating back 1600s well into late 19th century .
