The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation is a private foundation established in September 2000 by Intel co-founder Gordon E. Moore and his wife, Betty Irene Moore. The foundation has its headquarters based in Palo Alto, California, United States with an endowment of $6.7 billion USD as of 2017 making it one of the largest foundations in the world.

Mission Statement:
The mission statement for the organization is to “create positive outcomes for future generations.” In achieving this goal, they focus on four main areas: environmental conservation; patient care improvement; scientific research advancement; and Bay Area community development initiatives such as education programs and economic sustainability projects.

Environmental Conservation – This program works to protect biodiversity around the world through funding organizations that promote sustainable land use practices like marine protected areas (MPAs). It also helps support efforts towards preserving natural habitats from deforestation or pollution damage caused by human activities such as mining or drilling operations offshore oil platforms nearshore fisheries etcetera Patient Care Improvement– This initiative focuses on improving access to quality health care services via grants given out to institutions conducting research into new treatments & technologies that can help diagnose diseases earlier better manage chronic conditions reduce medical errors etc Scientific Research Advancement – Grants are provided here towards encouraging investigative science endeavors so that progress can be made across many different fields ranging from biomedical engineering biology computer sciences physics math astronomy social sciences economics political science etc Bay Area Community Development Initiatives – Through various investments focusing primarily but not exclusively within Silicon Valley funds are directed toward supporting local educational institutions public libraries parks museums theaters performing arts centers among other entities
