Glenn Close (born March 19, 1947) is an American actress and producer. She is known for her roles in films such as Fatal Attraction (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), The Big Chill (1983), and Albert Nobbs (2011). She has won three Emmy Awards, three Tony Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Close was born on Long Island in New York City to Bettine Moore Close and William Taliaferro Close. Her father was a doctor who served as the personal physician of President Richard Nixon during his time in office; he also founded health maintenance organization called CarePlus Health Plans Inc., which became part of UnitedHealth Group. After graduating from Choate Rosemary Hall boarding school she attended College at Williams College where she double-majored in theater arts and philosophy while participating with the college’s student theatre group “The Robinaires”.

In 1975, after several years working on off-Broadway plays including Love for Love directed by Michael Rudman at Circle Repertory Company under Marshall W Mason’s direction , Close got her breakthrough Broadway role playing opposite John Lithgow in Tom Stoppard’s play The Real Thing . This earned her both a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress as well as Drama Desk award nominations for Outstanding Featured Actress & Actress In A Play that year.. Her big screen debut came soon afterwards when director George Roy Hill casted Glenn close to star alongside Robert Redford & Paul Newman in “The Sting”(1973). Since then she has appeared over 50 feature films ranging from comedies like 101 Dalmatians & Hook to dramas like Jagged Edge & Dangerous Liaisons winning numerous awards along the way including 3 Emmys 2 Golden Globes 3 Tonys 1 SAG etc…

Aside from acting, Close is active charity work supporting various organizations related to mental illness awareness due to her personal experience with family members suffering depression or bipolar disorder throughout her life. Additionally since 2006 she serves on board of trustees/advisors To Women Of Vision And Action World Monuments Fund dedicated towards preservation world cultural heritage sites around globe ..

In 2019 she made history becoming first woman ever nominated 6 times best leading actress Academy Award category all 5 previous nods being consecutive between 1988–2002 plus latest one this year again portraying lead character “Alberta” psychological drama film titled ‘The Wife’.
