Gerrit Cole (born September 8, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2013 to 2018 and Houston Astros from 2018 to 2019.

Cole attended Orange Lutheran High School in California, where he was a two-time All-League selection. In 2008, his senior year, he went 11–2 with a 0.77 ERA and 134 strikeouts over 86 innings pitched while batting .323 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs as an outfielder. Cole then enrolled at UCLA after being drafted by the New York Yankees in the first round of the 2008 amateur draft but did not sign with them due to their inability to meet his bonus demands; instead opting to attend college on scholarship. During his three years at UCLA, he compiled a 20–15 record along with 345 strikeouts through 262⅔ innings pitched earning him Collegiate Baseball’s National Freshman Pitcher of The Year Award during his freshman season before ultimately turning pro prior signing up for duty within USA’s 2010 Amateur World Series Team roster that held camp in Tokyo Japan – winning gold medal honors there against Korea Republic team 2:1 among other international teams that competed throughout tournament play respectively as well..
