Florida State Government is the governing authority of the U.S. state of Florida and its various agencies, departments, and branches. The government consists of three distinct branches: executive, legislative and judicial with their respective powers determined by the Constitution of Florida and enforced through state laws.
The Executive Branch is headed by a Governor who serves as chief executive for a four-year term, renewable once more if he or she desires to remain in office beyond that point.[1] Other members include Lieutenant Governor (who succeeds governor if vacancy occurs), Attorney General (chief law enforcement officer) Secretary of State (head elections agency) Chief Financial Officer Commissioner Of Agriculture Cabinet appointed by governor to oversee specific areas such as education health care etc.,[2][3]. In addition there are several independent commissions which provide advice on certain issues like environmental protection gaming regulation human rights etc.[4][5]
The Legislative Branch consistsof 160 representatives elected from districts across the state serving two year terms [6], along with 40 senators each representing one district also serving four year terms[7]. This branch drafts bills proposing new legislation sends them off to be voted upon by both chambers then sent onto Govrnor’s desk where they can be signed vetoed or allowed to lapse into law without signature [8] . The Judicial Branch is made upof Supreme Court Justices appellate court judges circuit courts county judges magistrates traffic hearings officers clerks jurors bailiffs prosecutors public defenders attorneys general civil litigators mediators arbitrators private investigators any other officials associated with legal proceedings within FLorida [9][10]. This branch interprets statutes enacted by legislature ensures due process applied fairly reviews appeals from lower court decisions upholds constitutional protections provides guidance on how these laws should be interpreted rendered during trial settings manages disputes between citizens/businesses regarding matters involving violation contracts personal injury claims property damage tort suits class actions medical malpractice criminal cases family law juvenile delinquency licensing violations zoning regulations tax assessments etc.[11][12]
