Florida Atlantic Owls men’s basketball by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 46 The Florida Atlantic Owls men’s basketball team is the college basketball program of Florida Atlantic University, located in Boca Raton, Florida. The program was founded in 1989 and currently competes as a member of Conference USA (C-USA). The Owls are led by head coach Dusty May since 2018. History In 1989, FAU launched its first intercollegiate athletic programs with both a baseball and men’s basketball team. After one season playing an independent schedule, the Owls joined the Trans America Athletic Conference (now known as the Sun Belt) for their second season. During this time they had two NCAA tournament appearances under Coach Sidney Green (in 1992 & 1994). From 2001 to 2013 they competed in the Sun Belt conference before joining C-USA prior to 2013–14 academic year when FAU rejoined C-USA after spending 16 years away from it previously being part of TAAC/Atlantic Sun conference during that entire period respectively until then; whereupon Mike Jarvis took over coaching duties at that point till 2017 followed by current Head Coach Dusty May taking charge ever since then up present day into 2021 leading his teams winningest campaigns yet! Season Records Since becoming members of Division I hoops play in 1990 – spanning 31 seasons thus far -Florida Atlantic has achieved 8 postseason berths: 5 NIT Appearances(1992 , 1993 , 1995 , 2004 , 2005 ) 3 CBI Appearances(2009 , 2010 2016 ). They have seen 20 or more wins on 4 occasions which include 2 regular season championship titles within those four respective campaigns (’92’93,’04,’05), along with 1 other regular seasontitle shared via tiebreaker back in ’95 . Notably notables amongst former players who played here also includes Chris Watson who went on later become NBA Draft Pick selection 19th overall pick 1996 draft by Minnesota Timberwolves shortly thereafter going onto enjoy successful pro career abroad thereafter too! Facilities & Arena Home games are held at FAU Arena which opened its doors initially 1986 originally holding just 2000 spectators capacity but received major upgrade renovations around 2012 increasing seating capacity almost double now near 4000 seats total ! Notable rivalries amongst opponents across state lines notably include Central FL Knights whom share same geographical region location wise so naturally those matchups tend generate much hype annually each times these rivals face off against eachother especially come March if no postseasons meet ups occur beforehand traditionally speaking usually do though regardless typically every year either way some fashion shape form ..so certainly something look forward towards always whenever scheduling comes out yearly per usual custom there! 555
