Eric Garcetti

Eric Garcetti (born February 4, 1971) is an American politician who serves as the 42nd and current Mayor of Los Angeles. He was first elected in 2013 and re-elected to a second term in 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a Los Angeles City Councilmember representing part of central and South Los Angeles from 2001 to 2013.

Early life and education
Garcetti was born on February 4th, 1971 in Encino, California to Gil Garcetti and Sukey Rothstein. His father is Mexican-American while his mother is Jewish-American ancestry. He has two siblings: Tedde Garciazti; a physician/lawyer specializing in elder law;and David Gacretti;a filmmaker with credits including Reel Injun(2009). Eric attended elementary school at UCLA Lab School where he graduated valedictorian before attending Harvard University for undergraduate studies graduating magna cum laude with honors degree in urban planning. After completing his undergrad studies ,he went onto Columbia University to receive Masters Degree’s both MPA International Affairs & Urban Planning degrees .

Political career

While still studying at Columbia university ,Garcetti began volunteering on political campaigns which eventually led him towards running for office himself when approached by community leaders asking him if would run for city council seat following redistricting that had split up their incumbent representative district into four separate districts . With commitment from several labor unions providing support through volunteers & financial aid ,Garceitti ultimately won election becoming youngest ever elected or appointed official serving on LACityCouncil at age 31 years old . During his time on city council Garceiti held various positions such as President Pro Tempore during 2005 -06 year ;Chairing committee overseeing budget process multiple times throughout tenure ;Co Chair Energy Committee leading successful initiative encouraging green energy usage within LA county etc …..In 2012 after 11years service Garcietty ran successfully campaign for mayor against Wendy Greuel proving victorious winning 53% vote share …… As mayor one major accomplishments included raising minimum wage hourly rate via ordinance subsequently approved by voters allowing all individuals working inside city limits earn 15$ per hour salary …. Other significant achievements include launching program “MyLA2050” aimed creating sustainable future goals making quality living conditions more widely accessible across communities focusing investments renewable technologies transportation availability access healthcare facilities developing job training programs improving public safety amongst other initiatives designed improve quality life residents … Also notable mention attempting negotiate contract agreement between teachers union ending 6 day long strike 2018…. Additionally 2020 marked 5year anniversary passing Measure H “Homelessness Reduction” implemented by Mayor Garciettti increase funding efforts combat homeless crisis plaguing region…..
