Eric Clapton by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 59 Eric Clapton is an English musician, singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is the only three time inductee to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; once as a solo artist, and separately as a member of The Yardbirds and Cream. Often referred to by his nickname “Slowhand”, Clapton has gained immense popularity in both blues and rock music circles for his signature guitar playing style that blends elements from blues, jazz, reggae along with other genres. Many consider him one of the greatest guitarists ever due to his masterful improvisational abilities combined with technical proficiency on electric guitars such as Fender Stratocasters and Les Pauls. Clapton began performing professionally at age 16 when he joined British R&B band The Roosters in 1962 before joining fellow musicians Jack Bruce (bass)and Ginger Baker (drums)to form seminal supergroup Cream later that year. With their pioneering use of extended solos within songs they quickly achieved high chart success across Europe and America during 1966–1968 resulting in four multi platinum albums including Disraeli Gears which featured hit singles like ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ . In 1969 Eric embarked on a solo career releasing self titled album ‘Eric Clapton’. This was followed up shortly after by Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs recorded under Derek &The Dominos featuring duets with George Harrison who also contributed lead guitar work alongside Duane Allman’s slide parts throughout various tracks off this double LP set – notably their namesake song ‘Layla’. Throughout 1970s Eric continued recording new material further cementing himself into rock history books while collaborating with artists such as Pete Townshend , Steve Winwood , John Mayall among many others all while touring extensively around world earning him considerable praise from both fans critics alike . In 1974 he released 461 Ocean Boulevard containing widely covered single I Shot The Sheriff – recently being sampled by Lauryn Hill for her 1998 Grammy winning track Doo Wop (That Thing).
