Environmental conservation

Environmental conservation is the protection, preservation and management of natural resources, including wildlife, vegetation and water. It encompasses a variety of activities such as reducing pollution, conserving energy and educating citizens about environmental issues. Environmental conservation also includes sustainable development initiatives to ensure that current generations meet their needs without compromising future generations’ ability to do so. Conservation efforts may take place in local communities or on larger scales through government policies and international treaties.

History of environmental conservation can be traced back centuries ago with many cultures having developed practices for managing natural resources sustainably before modern times. For example ancient Greek philosophers advocated for the judicious use of nature’s bounty while advocating against deforestation in order to preserve woodlands which were important sources of timber used by humans at that time period. In more recent history (19th century) Americans began establishing national parks such as Yellowstone National Park in 1872 as an effort to protect large areas from exploitation due to increased human settlement activity during this era; these actions served both economic interests (tourism) along with biodiversity concerns since they prevented species native habitats from being destroyed or fragmented beyond repair due to overdevelopment/urbanization pressures among other things). The early 20th century saw further developments within the field when President Theodore Roosevelt established an executive order creating five National Monuments across America – this helped kick start what would eventually become known today as “conservation biology” where science-based approaches focus on preserving various endangered species via targeted research & monitoring programs etc..

In addition there have been several global agreements created throughout the years between nations aimed at curbing emissions levels associated with climate change (e.,g United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 1992), protecting marine life & ecosystems located outside territorial waters (United Nations Convention On Law Of Sea 1982) alongside numerous other measures taken jointly between countries all aiming towards better stewarding our shared planet Earth responsibly together!

Today environmentalists continue striving towards tackling pressing ecological challenges related air/water quality degradation plus loss biodiversity among much else – some common tactics include legislation designed prevent pollutants entering into bodies water supplies like rivers lakes oceans etc., promoting green technologies help reduce carbon footprints amongst other goals set out achieve greater sustainability our environment overall long-term basis going forward into next generation(s)!
