El Salvador by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 55 El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America. It has an area of 21,041 km2 (8,124 sq mi) and a population estimated at 6.42 million as of 2018. The capital and largest city is San Salvador. Other major cities include Santa Ana and Sonsonate. El Salvador borders Guatemala to the west and Honduras to the north-northwest with its Pacific Ocean coastline facing south along the Gulf of Fonseca on its western edge. The territory that now comprises El Salvador was originally inhabited by tribes belonging to various Mesoamerican cultures such as Pipil Nahua people who spoke their own language known as Nahuat or Pipil language from which modern day Spanish derives many words including “cuzcatleco” for person from Cuscatlan – one part of what today constitutes contemporary El salvadoran national identity . After several hundred years under Moorish rule during medieval times it became annexed into New Spain when it declared independence from Spain in 1821 alongside Mexico , Guatemala , Costa Rica , Nicaragua etc… becoming part of United Provinces Of Central America until 1840 when they separated forming independent countries all around Latin America.. Since then civil wars have devastated much of el salvador’s economy leaving behind poverty levels among highest in world but also creating significant migration patterns towards U S A resulting large diasporic communities mainly concentrated within Los Angeles California where majority speak spanish although not necessarily specific local dialects like cuscateco/nahuat due lack contact homeland generationally speaking so far away…. Despite these issues after XXI century mark there have been increasing efforts both governmentally private sector wise towards economic growth education reform legislation against violence targeting women children immigrants minorities plus recent peace accords between factions political parties ending decades long conflict leading way more promising future ahead.. In conclusion despite multiple challenges faced over centuries throughout history present day el salvador continues strive become prosperous nation fostering democratic values justice social inclusion collaboration regional partners opportunity everyone regardless ethnicity gender orientation socioeconomical status among other demographics making up vibrant mosaic culture society we know today …
