Clemson Tigers men’s basketball by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 44 The Clemson Tigers men’s basketball team is the intercollegiate men’s basketball program of Clemson University, located in Clemson, South Carolina. The school competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of NCAA Division I and plays its home games at Littlejohn Coliseum on campus. Since 1978, the Tigers have been led by head coach Brad Brownell; he has amassed a record as of April 2021. The program has reached two Final Fours: 1981 and 2019 with players such as Horace Grant, Trevor Booker and KJ McDaniels making it to the NBA Draft. In recent years they have had successful campaigns under head coach Brad Brownell including reaching three consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2018-2020 while winning their first ACC Tournament Title since 2011 during that stretch in 2019 which was highlighted by wins over Duke & North Carolina en route to becoming conference champions for only second time ever (to add onto previous ’90 tournament title). Clemson began playing organized basketball around 1911–12 under head coach Walter Riggs who spent 8 seasons leading them before being replaced by Frank Dobson after World War I ended his tenure early due to military service commitments; Dobson would lead them until 1936 when Banks McFadden took over for 10 more years until 1945 when Bobby Roberts became interim Head Coach. He held this position through 1948 season before Cliff Ellis arrived from Furman University following 1949 campaign where he remained until 1994 having coached some memorable teams throughout those 45 years most notably 1980s squads featuring All-Americans Dale Davis & Horace Grant plus 1984 Sweet Sixteen run culminating with loss against eventual National Champion Georgetown Hoyas led by Patrick Ewing Jr.. After brief stints from Rick Barnes then Larry Shyatt respectively came current leader Mr Brownell now 12th man helm since 1909 inception date whose accomplishments include bringing back historic rivalry vs rival South Carolina Gamecocks (which dates back even further than 109yrs); other highlights include 2020 Elite Eight appearance resulting 88–68 win versus #1 seed Kansas Jayhawks highlighting what will be remembered as one magical ride despite ultimate defeat next weekend facing off against another blue blood powerhouse programs like UNC Tarheels/Duke Blue Devils annually makes every game an event worth tuning into regardless if you’re diehard fan or casual viewer alike!
