Censorship

Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication, or other information which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by governments and private authorities. Governments and private organizations often engage in censorship for various reasons including national security concerns; political correctness; defamation control; hate speech management; obscenity prevention; religious restrictions on certain topics such as blasphemy laws (e.g., in some countries); protecting children from inappropriate content; preventing slanderous material from being disseminated to mass media outlets that could damage reputations of corporations and/or individuals.

The term “censorship” originates from the Latin word censere meaning “to assess”. It was first used in 1599 when it appeared in an English play called ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore written by John Ford. Since then its usage has been expanded to include any form of suppressing free expression whether through direct governmental action or indirect pressure exercised on governments who are likely to respect those wishes e.g., if a country receives foreign aid they might agree not to allow certain forms of controversial literature into their own nation etc.. In modern times there have been debates over what constitutes acceptable levels censorship with many arguing that all types should be discouraged due consideration given towards individual rights under international law i.e., freedom from arbitrary interference with one’s privacy home life family correspondence opinion expression residence movement &c..

There are numerous methods employed for censoring works ranging physical destruction burning books banning publications removal access libraries internet filtering keyword blocking software site blocking domain name disabling search engine manipulation broadcasting licensing agreement limits commercial advertising limitations legal injunctions fines imprisonment even death penalty imposed upon violators depending severity offence committed . While these measures can effectively stop flow particular type data some argue this gives government too much power controlling people lives without taking account degree personal autonomy they possess while others argue against unrestricted nature Internet availability settings like parental controls provide way parents monitor regulate use technology within households themselves rather than relying solely on external sources regulation oversight monitoring activity done online especially social networking sites becoming increasingly common practice among employers companies schools universities order ensure employees appropriate behaviour online whilst also providing level protection themselves potential risks posed engaging web 2 0 activities such cyber-bullying harassment identity theft fraud etcetera…
