Capitol siege by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 65 The Capitol siege of 2021 was a violent event that occurred on January 6th, 2021 in Washington D.C., United States of America. The violence began when thousands of people gathered at the U.S. Capitol Building to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election and demanded that then President Donald J. Trump be declared as winner despite losing to Joe Biden by millions of votes nationwide and Electoral College votes from 30 states plus D.C.. In response to the protests, members of Congress were evacuated from their chambers while voting on certifying electoral college votes for president-elect Joseph R Biden Jr.. Some protesters breached police barricades and forced entry into the building leading to fights between rioters and law enforcement personnel present inside at various locations including House Chambers, Senate Chamber etc.. Rioters also vandalised much property within US Capitol Building during this period causing widespread destruction across its premises with some even reaching offices like Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office resulting in further chaos before eventually being subdued by National Guardsmen who had been called upon after failure by local security forces alone to contain them effectively . As per reports, 5 deaths have been reported due one woman shot dead outside capitol complex , 3 others dying because cardiac arrest related health issues during riots , 1 protester died falling off scaffolding near senate chamber entrance & several other injuries caused due physical altercations or object shrapnel injuries sustained amid melee . In addition , multiple arrests too were made both immediately as well post aftermath for crimes committed there which included illegal possession firearms charges amongst many other felony counts filed against perpetrators . Investigations are still underway regarding participants involved in these events but it is established beyond doubt that it was politically motivated act undertaken by Pro trump supporters without his direct orders although public speeches he gave prior did whip up charged atmosphere among those attending gathering there itself fuelling tensions higher than usual & ultimately culminating into state emergency situation needing army intervention stem out outbreak completely . Overall long lasting implications can not accurately predicted yet but what is certain however is cost incurred will run multi million dollars least consisting damage repairs apart from legal costs likely arise later once investigations conclude alongwith any potential punishments ordered depending upon seriousness individual cases brought forth justice system afterwards if applicable ..
