by Joshua Brown

Boris Johnson (born Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson; 19 June 1964) is a British politician serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since July 2019. He was Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016.

Johnson was born in New York City, but moved to England at an early age, where he attended Oxford University before becoming a journalist with The Times newspaper. After working as an editor for various other publications, he became involved in politics, being elected Member of Parliament for Henley in 2001 and later representing Uxbridge and South Ruislip between 2015-2019. In his first term as MP he served under Michael Howard’s leadership until 2005 when David Cameron appointed him Shadow Chancellor after winning back control over the party following its defeat by Labour during Tony Blair’s premiership.

During this time period Johnson also wrote several books including “The Churchill Factor: How One Man Made History” which won him political book awards such as Spectator Magazine’s Political Book Award 2014 amongst others. Following Cameron’s resignation due to Brexit referendum results on 24th June 2016, Theresa May succeeded his position while appointing Johnson her new foreign secretary – however she resigned shortly afterwards amidst rising tensions within parliament leading up towards further elections taking place soon thereafter electing Mr Johnson into office on 23rd July 2019 with majority votes against Jeremy Corbyn whose manifesto included more radical policies than that previously proposed by Labour leader Ed Miliband during 2010 general election campaigns earlier prior thereto..
