Bolivia, officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia, is a landlocked country located in central South America. It shares borders with Brazil to the north and east, Paraguay and Argentina to the south, Chile to the southwest and Peru to the west. With an estimated population of 11 million people in 2020, it is one of Latin America’s least populated countries. The capital city is Sucre while La Paz serves as its administrative center due to its greater economic importance.

The territory now partaking Bolivia was colonized by Spaniards during 16th century after they conquered Inca Empire that previously occupied this area for centuries before them. After gaining independence from Spain on August 6th 1825 Bolivian Republic was declared under Simón Bolívar who gave his name for new nation state thus becoming one of two nations named after him (the other being Venezuela). Over following decades political instability became prevalent throughout region leading up until 1982 when democratic elections were held again restoring democracy within country which continues even today alongside some issues related with poverty across population still present but relatively low compared with neighboring countries such as Peru or Colombia .

Economically speaking Bolivia relies heavily on exports like minerals (mostly tin), gas , oil , agricultural products etc however there are also large disparities between rural poor living mostly off subsistence farming/herding practices while urban middle class have access more modern facilities usually found major cities like Santa Cruz de la Sierra or Cochabamba among others where majority citizens reside nowadays . Additionally tourism industry has grown significantly last few years thanks largely improved infrastructure all around making easier visitors explore various attractions including world’s largest salt flat Salar de Uyuni visit majestic Lake Titicaca nearby national parks filled numerous species wildlife alike .
